A woman has threatened to post maggots through her neighbours' letterboxes if bin bags continue to be left outside her front door.

Michelle Fox has already had flies and maggots coming in to her home because of the build up of waste in Warburg Crescent, Blackbird Leys, Oxford.

The mother-of-two and her neighbours said a nasty smell has lingered for months because of the laziness of some people living nearby. Ms Fox, 28, also hit out at what she sees as Oxford City Council's refusal to deal with the problem.

Her flat comes out on to a shared balcony and she said neighbours were dumping rubbish two feet from her front door because they could not be bothered to use the rubbish chute provided.

She said: "It is just nasty and I am fed up with trying to get in touch with the council to do something about it.

"The cats get in there and they rip the bags open. Four weeks ago I opened the front door and there were maggots everywhere.

"They were all over my front door and there were two or three actually coming in my doorway.

"If I carry on getting maggots through my front door I am going to post them through other people's front doors. I am so angry."

Ms Fox, 28, said she was worried there could be health implications from the bins for her 10-year-old daughter Jessica and 13-week-old son Zack.

She said 15 bin bags and a washing machine had been on the balcony for four weeks.

"In this weather all you have to do is open the door and you get a horrendous stench and lots of flies coming in. It is absolutely disgusting," she said.

"It has been months now. I must have rung the council about 10 times and I have been up to the offices nearly every week for the past six weeks."

Neighbour Ian Hunt said: "It is quite bad really - it stinks. If the council made the rubbish chute a bit wider so we could fit the bin bags down, it would make it a lot easier."

Ash Bond, whose flat comes out onto the same balcony, added: "Most people are considerate, but some people don't care."

A spokesman for Oxford City Council said: "We have been in contact with this resident. The issues she has raised through our City Works contact centre have been dealt with. However, we will be visiting her as soon as possible to address the underlying issues to ensure problems do not keep re-occurring."
