AN UNDERWATER camera that helps swimmers improve their strokes has been bought by the Abingdon Vale Swimming Club thanks to a grant of £3,000 from the Oxfordshire Community Foundation's Local Network Fund.

The Shark Eye underwater camera aids swimmers and coaches with detailed stroke analysis. It allows them to see in detail any faults so they can fine tune their technique.

In addition to Shark Eye - a system used by coaches to the Great Britain squad - Abingdon Vale has bought two Drag-N-Fly resistance training units.

Swimmers wear a belt which is attached to a cord. The swimmer swims away from the machine, which increases resistance as the swimmer moves further away. It is an aid to increase their power.

Club spokesman Diane Law said: "This new equipment is the latest in coaching aids. It is not yet widely used in the county and will help move the club's achievements by leaps and bounds.

"Our target is to move the club on to be one of the premier clubs in the area.

"Our recent rise in performance shows that the coaches and swimmers are dedicated and passionate about the sport."
