NEW research from TripAdvisor’s has revealed Oxford’s most booked experiences by tourists, and unsurprisingly, classic sightseeing tours remain at the top of the list.
However, despite traditional experiences like the Oxford University Walking Tour remaining the most popular among travellers, TripAdvisor’s 2018 Trend Report shows an increase in bookings of tours focussing on film locations.
TripAdvisor spokeswoman Hayley Coleman said: “Travellers are rounding out their trips with experiences like film locations tours and river cruises.
“One film locations tour saw over a 200 per cent increase in bookings from 2016 to 2017 and we anticipate this demand to continue.”
Iconic landmarks and sites remain the most-booked by travellers globally, whilst cultural categories like food tours and historical and cultural experiences are seeing a bookings boost.
Oxford holidaymakers are no exception to the global trend, the report says, showing the two-hour walking tour of Harry Potter Filming Location ranking second in the most popular list.
The data also shows that the city’s red Hop-on Hop-off sightseeing busses are third on the list, followed by the ‘Inspector Morse,’ ‘Lewis,’ and ‘Endeavour’ Walking Tour of Oxford.
Oxford Sightseeing's river cruise along the university regatta course is fifth.
