POLICE launched a murder investigation after a 62-year-old man was found dead at his home in Witney.

Police officers were called to the house, in Colwell Drive, at 11am on Saturday, after receiving reports a man had died.

Officers arrested a man in his 40s on suspicion of murder. But he was later released without charge and the death is no longer being treated as suspicious.

The dead man's identity has not been officially confirmed.

Thames Valley Police spokesman Toby Shergold said: "A man was initially arrested on suspicion of murder, but released without charge soon afterwards.

"We're currently treating the death as unexplained until we get the results from the coroner, but the death isn't being treated as suspicious at this time."

A number of shops in the Burwell Drive area were closed and cordoned off by police on Saturday for several hours as part of their initial investigation.

Shopkeepers expressed their concern after police closed the shops from 2pm to 5pm.

Londis mini-market owner Piush Patel, of Burwell Drive, said: "The police came in to close the shop.

"When I asked them why, they said they were dealing with a serious crime and needed to do forensic examinations.

"There have been a number of residents concerned about this incident and there has been a lot of talk among them."
