People in East Oxford are being asked to get involved in a new newsletter for the area.

Oxford City Council is launching the East Oxford Newsletter and local people are sought to help write, print, edit and attract advertising for the new publication.

The aim of the newsletter, which is being spearheaded by the council's east area parliament which has put £6,000 into the project, is to get local people involved in their community and promote local events.

It is planned to hand over the project to an independent group headed by a newsletter coordinator based in East Oxford and the aim is for it to attract enough advertising revenue to make it financially sustainable.

The first edition will outline the aims of the newsletter and ask for community feedback and input to future editions. Contributions and comments for the first edition are sought by August 31.

It will report on issues which affect east Oxford residents, as well as acting as a forum for local community groups and residents' associations to publicise their work. Police, NHS and Oxfordshire County Council will also be involved in the project.

The first edition will be distributed to homes in East Oxford in the autumn and will also be available at various locations in the area. It is planned for the publication to publish four times a year.

Area coordinator Fergus Lapage said: "We have got a couple of people who have expressed an interest but we need to attract others as well. There is a bit of work to be done."
