THE Ashmolean Museum is famous around the world for its archaeological treasures and priceless works of art. Now it has another string to its bow: its own variety of gin.
The Beaumont Street museum has unveiled its own concoction with flavours inspired by its collection.
The tipple has been produced by The Oxford Artisan Distillery, TOAD, at its base in South Park. It is made from local organic grain along with more exotic botanicals such as jasmin tea, myrrh and lemongrass.
Museum director Alexander ‘ Xa’ Sturgis, said: “This has been a great opportunity for the museum to have its own gin made in our fair city and inspired by our collections.”
TOAD’s master distiller Cory Mason said: “When making a new gin it’s exciting to seek out new experiences. It’s like making a perfume and takes a lot of fine tuning – and this is a great one.”
Ashmolean Dry Gin is available in the museum gift shop and restaurant.
