Science Oxford is offering workshops teaching teenagers how to produce animated films and podcasts this summer.
The weeklong workshops are designed to help teenagers aged 14 to 19 develop skills in digital broadcasting. The workshops cover writing, directing and producing programmes that explore the social issues sparked by scientific research, such as genetics, pharmaceuticals and stem cell research.
The workshops are led by professionals and use he vary latest equipment.
Sarah Richardson, the workshop co-ordinator, said: "These workshops fill a much-needed gap and allow teenagers to be creative, develop their skills and explore science at the same time."
An animated film workshop last week saw students make a seven-minute film using a variety of techniques including claymation and Flash programming.
One participant, Esme Lucas, 15, said of her experience: "Learning about filmmaking and science has been fascinating and it's been a great part of my summer holidays so far."
Places are still available for the workshops, which start on Monday, 10am-4pm, and cost £20. Call 01865 728953. Science Oxford is at 1-5 London Place, St Clements, Oxford. For more details visit the www.scienceoxford.com website.
