SIMON Eastwood is on Barnsley's list of goalkeeping targets during the January transfer window.
Tykes boss Paul Heckingbottom confirmed a rumour which emerged earlier this week - that they had an interest in the Oxford United stopper.
He was asked about the link this morning and told the Barnsley Chronicle: "(Eastwood) is one of so many who fits the profile.
"He is a goalkeeper who has the experience and has performed well at a decent level for a long time.
“There are a few out there. We have to look at what fits our wage structure best.”
Eastwood has been superb for United since signing in summer 2016.
His performances last season earned him a new contract, which still has 18 months left to run.
Regular first-team football has been the key for a player who made just 20 appearances in three years at Blackburn Rovers.
While a move north would bring Eastwood much closer to home, it is unclear whether Barnsley could make assurances over being No 1.
Adam Davies has started the last 119 games and their search this month appears to be motivated by giving back-up stopper Nick Townsend opportunities on loan.
Before this week Eastwood had missed just one game since arriving, but withdrew from the trip to Charlton Athletic in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday night.
Boss Pep Clotet insisted it was purely down to a shoulder injury and the 28-year-old had been sent for a scan.
He said on Tuesday: "There have been no bids for anyone, that I know of.
“I understand it completely, but they (the supporters) don’t need to be thinking about speculation.
“Nothing has happened, the situation is the same and he stays with us.”
Clotet is away scouting a player in Europe, so assistant head coach Chris Allen took over the pre-Walsall media duties this morning.
He said: "With the shoulder problem we'll see how he is today and see if he's available for selection."
