Ruskin College has paid tribute to Nuno Cardoso, who died after suffering a cardiac arrest while in the back of a police van.
Mr Cardoso, who was a law student at the college in Headington, died on Friday, November 24 while being driven to custody in Abingdon.
The police van pulled over at Redbridge Park and Ride in Abingdon Road, Oxford, but he could not be saved.
A statement paying tribute to the 25-year-old was issued today by Ruskin College.
Principal Paul Di Felice said: "Nuno was a valued student of the College and was highly regarded by his fellow law students, law tutor and our college community.
"He is missed by all that knew him."
At the opening of an inquest into his death on Tuesday, Oxford Coroner's Court heard Mr Cardoso had been arrested at Ruskin Hall, Dunstan Road, Oxford, in the early hours of November 24.
He was arrested over allegations of an assault and placed in the back of the van to be taken to Abingdon Police Station.
A full inquest is due to be held on September 5, 2018.
The incident is being investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
