A CRIMINALLY good brewery is calling on the community to help it raise £30,000.
Founded a year ago, Tap Social Movement grew out of a passion for good beer and social justice.
Frustrated by the lack of opportunities for people 'stuck in the system', criminal barrister Paul Humpherson and his co-founders Tess and Amy Taylor set a precedent in their newly-chosen industry – by offering fully accredited qualifications for co-workers who will be learning the ropes alongside them.
Some of those co-workers are serving prisoners at HMP Spring Hill in Buckinghamshire.
But now they need residents' help to not only expand their programmes but also increase their brewery production and make some much needed renovations to their site in Curtis Industrial Estate, Botley.
Miss Taylor said: "We have been truly astounded by the support we've already had from the community, which is fantastic.
"So to help us make even more beer and provide an even better tap room community space we need their help.
"It is so important that we are able to expand the work we are doing with people who are still serving their sentences, because we are breaking the cycle by giving them these skills they can then take on to get employment once their sentences are finished."
Two members of the current team are still serving their sentences at Spring Hill, a category 'D' open prison.
With investment, the team hope to double their numbers and get more people back into work after serving time in jail.
Miss Taylor added: "We are offering lots of exciting rewards in return for your support, but most importantly, by helping us to grow the business, both the brewery and taproom, you are helping us to grow our impact, getting people back into work after prison, and thereby helping to break the cycle of reoffending.
"That is what we are all about."
The money raised will also be used to help renovate the taproom, including new a new heating system and toilets.
The brewery's beers include Bleeding Heart Numbskulls and Monkey Bars.
Team member, Max Upton, who is not a serving prisoner, added: "Our brewery taproom and event space is open regularly with all of our beers on tap and is host to a range of community events including live music, arts and cooking performances and charity fundraisers.
"We have been absolutely blown away by the level of support we have received from the community in our first year, and have grown much quicker than we had expected.
"We want to make this space as inviting as possible and host even more events in the future."
From Tap Social merchandise to beers, those who donate will receive a token of thanks back from the craft brewery.
Anyone who donates £150 or more the team will be invited to a party with an open bar.
The crowdfunding page will close on Christmas Day, and has already raised more than £6,500.
