ABINGDON and Falcon club combined and sculled to victory at the Pairs Head of the River Race, writes John Wiggins.
Racing on the Thames from Chiswick Bridge to just past Hammersmith Bridge, the masters B/C double scull of Mary Murray (Falcon RC) and Bev Ashton (Abingdon RC) won their Intermediate event by ten seconds
Abingdon’s husband and wife team of Tim and Karen Baker were second in the mixed D/E double, as were City of Oxford’s mixed masters B/C crew of Naomi Sharma and Dennis Engelke.
Another Abingdon crew, Gerard Simmonds and Chris Thomson, also claimed second place in the masters D/E pair.
Headington School’s youngsters dominated their events at the Evesham Junior Head.
While the J13 crews were unopposed in quads and doubles, the school took the top two places in the J14 quads, winning with the crew of Ana Matveeva, Cleo Shore, Charlotte Forkun, Maddie Cipriani and cox, Izzy Potts.
