MORE open space has been created in an Oxford park , following a request from visitors.
Oxford City Council asked what users of Summertown’s Alexandra Park wanted to change as part of a consultation in 2015 – and spent £32,000 improving it.
The council’s executive board member for leisure, parks and sport, Linda Smith, said: “This is another example of Oxford City Council listening to local residents to help improve their community facilities. I hope families get a lot of joy out of this new green space.”
Now the improvements, which include new picnic benches and hedgerows, have been completed, the new-improved park has been officially opened.
In order to carry out the work, the council reduced the park’s number of grass tennis courts from eight to six.
The council refurbished them at a cost of £50,000 two years ago.
The council manages 900 acres of parkland and open space across the city, including Cutteslowe and Sunnymead Parks, Florence Park, South Park and Port Meadow.
