THE opening of an inquest into the death of a young boy from Faringdon confirmed he died from stab wounds.
A murder investigation was launched by Thames Valley Police after Tyler Warmington, five, was found dead at a property in Bromsgrove Cottages off Station Road, on March 14.
Today at Oxford Coroner's Court Oxfordshire coroner Darren Salter opened an inquest into the boy's death.
Mr Salter revealed it was staff at Tyler's school, Faringdon Primary School, that called 999 to alert police officers.
He said consultant pathologist Dr Nicholas Hunt carried out a post mortem examination and concluded the cause of death was stab wounds to the chest.
Mr Salter added that police officers attended Tyler's home after they were contacted by staff at the boy's school - Faringdon Primary School.
Previously Tyler's headteacher Laura White said: "Tyler was a lively, happy little boy who particularly enjoyed building things and running around with his friends outside.
"He will be missed by all at our school."
The coroner said the inquest would be adjourned for more 'substantive inquiries'.
He added: "There may or may not be an inquest depending on criminal charges."
Mr Salter listed the case for review at the end of July in order to decide how to proceed with the case.
A 40-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of murder was released on bail until Wednesday.
