FAMOUS Dutch artist Oscar van Dab will be exhibiting his latest masterpiece – an entirely black painting – at an Oxford gallery today.

The Dutchman’s work has been praised by art experts across the globe with many lauding his ‘mastery of light and shade’.

In recent years the Broad Canvas Art Shop in Broad Street has displayed the work of Sandra Bavco, known for her all white paintings, but following her sad death van Dab has taken up the mantle.

The humble artist said it was all down to his varied use of colour, namely Ivory Black, Process Black and Mars Black.

The curator of the gallery, Peter Bellingham, said: “With Sandra Bavco sadly gone, there is only one natural successor.

“That is why we are putting this startling new work in our window on April 1 for the whole of Oxford to see – you’d be foolish to miss it.”

The piece, entitled The Beginning of April, will be on show in The Window Gallery of the Broad Street shop all day today.

It is, of course, free to view.
