OXFORD United fans will ‘definitely out-sing’ Coventry supporters tomorrow, despite taking around 10,000 fewer fans.

Official merchandise seller Sue Trafford, backed the Yellow Army to outdo their Sky Blue counterparts in the volume stakes at the home of football tomorrow.

She said: “Wherever Oxford go, we are always so loud, particularly our away fans and we will definitely out-sing Coventry, even though they will have more fans.

“As this week has gone on people have become more and more excited.

“The merchandise has been popular again this year and the Wembley scarves have proved a real hit and we have handed out so many of the Oxford Mail car stickers.

She added: “Everyone is prepared now for Wembley.”

United’s players have also been preparing for the big day and three of them popped into Andy’s Barber Shop in Bicester on Thursday for a pre-match trim.

Co-owner Andy Willis, who cut the players’ hair and will be at Wembley with seven of his colleagues, said: “Since we opened about nine years ago we have always had United players come in.

“I thought they would come in before the final and Liam Sercombe, Simon Eastwood and Marvin Johnson all popped in on Thursday.

“They are all good guys and know we are all huge football fans, they often pose for pictures with youngsters in the shop and they are really down to earth - I hope the haircut brings them the win.”

But the winner of the Oxford Mail ticket competition 46-year-old Mel Fernandes, was more fearful of a repeat of last year.

Mr Fernandes, who works at the BMW plant in Cowley, said: “I was over the moon to win, I used to go the Manor Ground a lot in the 90s when I lived in Headington and now often go to the Kassam.

“I was at Wembley last year and it was hard to take - if that scenario is repeated, I’ll tell my lift not to hang about for me and I’ll probably walk home alone.”

The U’s mascot, 13-year-old Zayn Khan, from Botley, may just about be the most excited Yellows fan.

The Cumnor Minors footballer fractured his foot earlier this season and Oxford Brookes University, where the team trains, selected him as official mascot.

He said: “I got a phone call from my manager the other day, and I was so happy.

“I’m just so excited, I can’t wait to meet all the players and walk out on the Wembley pitch in front of thousands of people.”
