RESIDENTS left in the dark by broken street lights have seen the light again after the Oxford Mail got involved.
There were fears someone could get hurt in Normandy Crescent, Paget Road and Fanshawe Place, which have been plunged into darkness twice this month by power faults.
Council bosses said they couldn’t help because it was a job for Scottish & Southern Energy (SSE).
But the fault has now been fixed after enquiries were made by the Mail.
We got in touch with SSE this week and neighbours yesterday confirmed engineers had come to sort the problem.
Normandy Crescent resident and former city councillor Bob Timbs said:
“We had been in darkness for three weeks... but then low and behold it was fixed.
“When the Mail photographer came it was so dark that he couldn’t even see us when he was 10 feet away, it was unsafe.
“It helps when you get these things in the press because companies do not like that sort of thing appearing.
"If anyone reading this has the same problem, I’d also tell them to contact their local MP.
“Andrew Smith was really helpful. He said it was out of order and wrote to the chief executive of SSE right away.”
It followed a previous power failure on November 9. SSE engineers got the lights working again on November 17.
