How refreshing to see a sensible letter about cyclists in your columns.

I refer to the one from Pamela Webber (Oxford Mail, June 14), who takes a balanced view of the advantages and risks of cycling.

She rightly emphasises that cyclists, like other road users, should obey the Highway Code and be extra cautious as well.

As a pensioner who cycles to the city centre almost every day, I cannot agree with councillor Sushila Dhall (Oxford Mail, June 14) that only a few jump red lights.

I see quite a few every time I am stopped at a red light.

I also see quite a few cycling illegally through Queen Street between 10am and 6pm.

In my view, your correspondents' criticisms of cyclists are usually justified.

There seem to be many cyclists who care nothing for the law and I only wish the police did more to enforce it.

The recent blitz at the Parks Road/Broad Street junction caught a large number of offenders in a few hours.

The result would be repeated if they did it again. Those nasty, illegal cyclists unfortunately give all cyclists a bad name.
