With just days before another major Headington roadwork project residents were left scratching their heads after signs suggested residents would be blocked from parking for the entire 19 weeks instead of just three.

Roadworks for the 2.2km hospital pipeline project which begins on Monday will seal off access to some homes for up to three weeks at a time.

County Council signage, however, indicated that residents would be blocked for the whole project.

In response to concerns, the council said it would be installing new signage to supersede the old ones.

Council spokesperson Martin Crabtree said: “The signs that are up are correct and are needed so that parking enforcement can be carried out at the right time during the hospital pipeline work.

“However, those signs will be soon superseded by new ones reflecting more accurately the schedule of planned work giving residents in specific areas ample time to prepare.”

Senior communications manager at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Francine Rodrigues added: “Oxford University Hospitals partner Vital Energi who is responsible for the laying of the Hospital Energy Project Energy Link pipeline, has given its assurance that properties along the route will only be affected for up to a three week period at a time.”
