FIREFIGHTERS and paramedics rushed to a crash scene between Carterton and Burford after a woman veered off the road and smashed into a tree.

The B4020 Shilton Road was shut both ways this morning after the crash at about 8.30am, at the Bridge Street crossroads.

South Central Ambulance Service spokesman David Gallagher said the driver called emergency services herself after suffering neck pain and was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital with minor injuries.

He said a request was logged for help to get to the woman out and reports initially suggested that firefighters had to cut through the car.

But Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Services spokeswoman Emily Reed said no-one was trapped or had to be cut out and that firefighters had left by 9am.

The road has since reopened.
