ONE room was damaged after a fire at a home in Eynsham in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Fire crews from Eynsham and Oxford were called to the fire at a house on Mill Street at around 1.40am.
Firefighters found the ground floor heavily smoke-logged from burning next to the fireplace and after battling the blaze used a high-pressure fan to clear the smoke.
Watch Manager Frank Patterson said: “This incident shows the value of having working smoke alarms.
“The fire was detected quickly, and the smoke was contained because doors were shut.
“The occupier was able to escape from the house without injury.”
