Oxford has been crowned the ‘most entertaining city’ in the UK according to newly compiled data.

The research by MrGamez.com compiled ratings for cinemas, bars and restaurants, theatres, stadiums, gigs, and reviews from trip advisor and other ‘happiness ratings’ in some 40 UK cities.

Of the 40 cities analysed Oxford came out on top with a score of 46 out of a maximum score of 70 when combining the scores out of ten for each area - from theatres to restaurants.

Welcoming the news, Oxfordshire County Council cabinet member for cultural services Lorraine Lindsay-Gale said that the ranking was a reflection of the amount of cultural venues on offer across the city.

She said: “I think it is fantastic. People who live here really do live in an exciting city.

“There is lots of things to do here in the city and hopefully other people will see it and come and enjoy it.

“We do have fantastic theatres, cinemas and music venues all around the city and so there is a massive offering and so much appeal.

“We have lots of exhibitions such as Modern Art Oxford and so on.

“It is just a fantastic city.”

There was no clear north-south divide between the rankings across the country and narrowly missing the top spot was Inverness which scored 45.5, followed closely by Bath with a score of 44.7.

Nearby Reading was ranked 16th with a score of 29.7 and Windsor scored better coming 13th with a total of 32.1.

Luton was ranked bottom place with a score of 14.9.

The list was compiled using the Office for National Statistics, and ratings websites such as TripAdvisor and Yell.com.

The data was also sourced from Wikipedia, google and All Gigs.
