Summer reds and rosés are all about clean, fruity and ultimately drinkable wines that are ideal for a picnic or dining alfresco on the terrace. The key note here is bright, vibrant fruit and freshness which complements most summer foods perfectly.
The summer reds and rosé case costs £61 and includes three bottles each of the following four wines:
Domaine de Gouyat Rosé 06, Bergerac: Serge Dubard makes this excellent rosé from his 73-hectare vineyard on the right bank of the Dordogne in the western part of Bergerac. Made primarily from cabernet sauvignon, the wine is clean, fresh and dry with notes of fruit salad and summer fruits - delicious.
Broken Earth 'The First Pick' Shiraz Rose 06, Australia; This is a full-bodied fruit-driven Australian rosé made from the shiraz grape variety. Just off dry with flavours of ripe berry fruit and a hint of spice, the wine is perfect for salads and white meats - very refreshing.
Beaujolais Loron et Fils 06, France: Loron's 50 hectares of vineyards have provided the grapes for this classic purple-tinged, French-café style Beaujolais which is light, juicy and really refreshing with engaging raspberry fruit. Try it slightly chilled with white meats, cheese and charcuterie.
Côtes du Rhône Domaine des Gravennes 06, France: Made mainly from the grenache grape variety, this spicy and fruity Cotes du Rhône is medium-bodied with clean redcurrant and roasted fruit and is ideal with most meats and cheeses - a perfect picnic wine in fact.
