OXFORD United joined forces with the military to honour the country’s fallen heroes during their 4-1 win against Coventry City.

The U’s closest home fixture to Remembrance Sunday fell on Saturday and fans and players alike took the opportunity to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

Military vehicles, personnel and an assault course was positioned around the Kassam Stadium before kick-off and a special Guard of Honour was carried out on the pitch.

Fans also enjoyed a special visit from an arms and explosives search dog called Caesar who provided some comical half-time entertainment.

As part of the military day, Caesar’s handlers had organised the sniffer dog to find a hidden package among the 9,199-strong crowd.

But instead of showing off his specialist skills, the four-legged friend decided to try out his football skills and chased the balls being used to warm up the substitutes for the majority of the interval.

Both sets of fans howled with laughter as the half-time demonstration did not go quite to plan -and cheers only got louder when he relieved himself on an advertising board.

Peter Rhoades-Brown, who ran the half-time entertainment, took to Facebook to give his praise of the star of the show.

He said: “Great day with the military and the players on form.

“No idea how we can better half-time entertainment from now on after my friend Caesar ran the show.”
