The 2016 Oxfordshire Book Awards were a real page-turner as more than 400 people attended a special ceremony at Oxford High School to see their favourite authors pick up awards.

This year’s award ceremony saw winners in a number of categories, including Lisa Williamson, Steve Antony, Tom McLaughlin, Steven Lenton and Teri Terry

The awards fell into three categories - best picture book, best primary novel, best secondary book - along with the runner up prizes.

Winners were announced in April after students from 35 schools across Oxfordshire voted and were then invited to meet the authors. The authors were presented with a cake decorated to look like their winning books.

Founder and organiser of the award ceremony Lynne Cooper said: “I thought it was the best yet. I thought the authors were absolutely brilliant, totally interactive with the students and I had feedback from the students telling me how much they enjoyed listening to them.”

After the event, Steve Antony, recipient of Best Picture Book for Please Mr Panda, thanked all the organisers as well as the 'the super teachers, librarians and children' for making the event possible.

The Astounding Broccoli Boy, by Frank Cottrell Boyce and Steven Lenton, won best primary novel and The Art of Being Normal, by Lisa Williamson, won best secondary book.
