A GROUP in Bicester which helps people living with life-limiting or terminal illnesses has praised the 'amazing' support from locals ahead of setting up new support sessions.

The team at not-for-profit organisation Greenfields Care and Support have a new base to offer support for patients at Bicester Wyevale Garden Centre.

The sessions, starting in the New Year, are an expansion of the group's work helping people with stress, anxiety, depression and pain while they are receiving complementary therapies.

An open day was held at the garden centre off the Oxford Road and has been hailed a success by organisers.

Greenfields founder Becky Fletcher said: "We had over 60 people through the door and amazing support from local people including new and existing patients, health care professionals, carers, local hospices and the most loveliest people offering to volunteer and fundraise.

"We had seven therapists on hand offering therapeutic treatments including Reiki, Reflexology, Indian Head Massage, Hopi Ear Candling, Massage, Acupuncture and Manicures and Hand Massage."

Greenfields was set up last year as a way of providing support for anyone coping with life-limiting or terminal illnesses.

The idea developed from Mrs Fletcher's work in setting up The Hummingbird Centre. also in Bicester, where she drew the inspiration to help people suffering with more illnesses outside cancer.

Greenfields hosts drop-in sessions as well as home visits for those patients that cannot make it to sessions.

The new base at Bicester Wyevale means regular sessions will be held at the centre for 16 to 30-year-olds from January.

Mrs Fletcher added: "We have an amazing programme of events coming up in the new year for our patients including make-up artist, meditation classes, mindfulness sessions, safety in the home for vulnerable people and a nutritionist talking about diet and nutrition, what to eat or not to eat when faced with illness.

"If patients are unable to attend our drop in therapy days we provide a home visit service for people within a 13 miles radius of Bicester."

The drop in sessions will be held every Tuesday at 3.30pm to 5pm from January 10.
