A DRIVER has had a 'lucky escape' after their car overturned on the M40 this morning.

One lane was closed today between junction 9 (Bicester) and junction 8A (Oxford Services) London bound today.

Two fire appliances from Bicester along with a specialist rescue unit from Kidlington quickly attended the scene.

When crews arrived on the motorway, they were faced with a single vehicle that had rolled over, with the occupants having been helped out by passers- by.

However all three occupants required medical assistance and specially trained firefighters worked closely with South Central Ambulance Crews to stabilise one lady, and care for the two further casualties.

Incident Commander Pete Mackay said: “The occupants of the car were fortunate not to have suffered more serious injuries as the car had rolled completely over before coming to a halt on the hard shoulder.

"Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service would like to remind all drivers of the need to take extra care on the roads as the weather changes and we move into autumn and winter”.

David Gallagher, a spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service, confirmed that two ambulances arrived at the scene just after 11am.

He said: "We had two patients with minor injuries and both were taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital."
