Cyclists in Oxford have a lot less to fear than those in Rotherham, as a new survey has shown that the city is one of the safest places for bike riders in the country.
Research by Road Safey Analysis shoes that one in 20 cyclists can be injured each year in areas with relatively few bikes on the road compared with one in 500 in areas where cycling is hugely popular.
Experts have warned that in northern towns and cities including Rotherham, Chesterfield, Bolton, Leeds and Liverpool where fewer people cycled, more accidents occured.
Whereas Oxford city ranked 25th safest out of 319 local authorities.
Vale of White Horse came out even better, coming in 19th.
Richard Owen, from the non-profit making company, said the study has shown that having more cyclists in a town has forced motorists to adapt.
