WORKMEN outraged by a horrific attack on a pensioner have measured up to make him a new door.

Hanney Glazed Ltd was the first of several local businesses to offer their service for free after an 85-year-old was brutally beaten in his Sutton Courtenay home.

Staff popped round yesterday to take measurements to replace the door, after a burglar smashed through and demanded money.

A JustGiving page set up by villagers at Sutton Courtenay Tyres has now raised more than £1,650 to buy him better security and help him feel safe again.

Donor Steve Randall wrote on the page yesterday: “I was shocked to tears to hear of that brutal attack on that poor defenceless old chap.”

Contributor Ann Darley commented: “Such an awful thing to happen - hope the money raised will help Aldo smile again.”

The victim, known to his friends as Aldo, was whacked around the head repeatedly on Monday night with his own walking sticks before he relented and gave the burglar £40.

Police said the attacker was black, wearing black clothing and was about 5ft 10ins.

An anonymous donor who gave £50 said: “We are all sick of these people ruining other people’s lives. Stay strong.”

Another said they wanted to ‘show him that he is not alone’.

Anyone with information about the attack can call 101.
