Sir - Whilst I do agree with Juliet Field (Letters, June 8) that co-operation is admirable in order to achieve more recycling, there is a flaw in her argument.
The frequency of collection and the rate of recycling are in no way connected. It would be possible to collect every day and have zero recycling or collect once a month and have 100 per cent.
It is important for Oxford residents to understand that the smell, vermin and unsightly piles of rubbish they have to endure are not a sacrifice in order to improve recycling.
Fact and fiction are well mixed in this debate, as they will be when the council announces the very promising improvements in recycling that have been achieved.
