JUST days after major work to fix damaged kerbs at Frideswide Square was completed, the pavement was once again being dug up yesterday to repair damaged slabs.
Workers from Drayton Construction Ltd were digging up the road outside La Croissanterie in Park End Street during the afternoon.
However, the cause of the damage is still being investigated so it will not be the end of the disruption.
Oxfordshire County Council spokesman Martin Crabtree said: "Some of the slabs outside the Croissanterie have cracked and our engineers are investigating the cause.
"The area we are looking at is around 5.2m in diameter and is localised to the footway.
"When we know more about the cause we will decide what needs to be done in order to make a permanent repair."
There is also damage to some of the slabs outside the train station which will need fixing before they become dangerous.
Mr Crabtree added: "We are aware of the damage to these stones and are monitoring their condition. They are not unsafe but we will be repairing them in due course."
The old traffic light system Frideswide Square underwent a £6.7m overhaul in 2015 and was converted into a series of three roundabouts over 10 months but there have been a number of problems with the scheme.
Only last week, work to fix damage caused by heavy goods vehicles struggling to get around the roundabout near The Royal Oxford Hotel was completed.
Andrew Norton, who runs The Jam Factory venue in nearby Hollybush Row, said a full investigation needs to be carried out on the cause of the problem.
He added: "No-one is going to blame the council for fixing a bit of pavement. But it's right to question whether it's the right decision to repair the pavement until after it's finished; it seems inconceivable they wouldn't wait until the end of the redevelopment."
