The Kite will reopen by this weekend after a temporary manager was found by owners Greene King.

The pub chain shut the Mill Street boozer's doors on July 26 after its landlord opted to leave his job.

But today it said Tom Rainey from The Punter in South Street in Osney would take over The Kite on a temporary basis.

Greene King spokesman Scott Frankham said: "We can confirm that The Kite Inn will be reopening this weekend under the temporary management of Tom Rainey from The Punter in Osney.

"Tom is a well-respected partner of Greene King who will help us work out a longer term plan for the pub once it has re-opened and trading later this week."

It is believed there has been a pub on the site for about 200 years, and the building itself dates back to the late 19th century.
