A BUS driver from Oxford who was relentlessly stalked by a woman for four years has spoken of his terrifying ordeal on national television.

Imre Marton, 30, told how he was constantly looking over his shoulder wherever he went due to the obsession 22-year-old Charlie Howells had over him, and eventually became too scared to go to work.

He appeared on ITV's This Morning to talk about his struggle, after Howells was jailed for two years in April.

Mr Marton said: "Every day she was always there. It was really scary in the beginning. One day she asked me out and said she's in love. I told her I was in a relationship and I thought maybe she would stop. But she was not getting the message."

Mr Marton said eventually he began to dread going to work, in fear he would see Howells. She had a free concessionary pass and would spend hours waiting for his bus to arrive.

Once she was on the vehicle she would play One Direction songs to him and constantly tell him she was in love. But she also had an aggressive side, he said.

He claimed she once threw water in his face, told him she would make him "ugly" and threatened to cut his throat.

And when she could not find him, Howells would walk around the city with a photo of Mr Marton asking people if they had seen him.

His colleagues, who first saw it as a "bit of a joke", eventually encouraged him to go to the police.

But despite Howells receiving a restraining order, Mr Marton said she "breached it every day".

Eventually Howells was sentenced in April to two months in jail for harassment and two years for breaching her restraining order, to run concurrently. The restraining order was also extended to five years.

The bus driver is now planning to move from Oxford and start over somewhere new, so Howells cannot find him when she is out of prison.

He said: "This is with me all the time. Every day it is in my mind. I think she is making plans to finish the job."

The interview, first aired last week, is available via ITV Hub online.
