STUDENT campaigners from the #RhodesMustFall movement will return in force to the streets of Oxford on Wednesday.
The group’s ‘Mass March for Decolonisation’ was initially set to take place on Tuesday but was moved so as not to coincide with International Women’s Day.
Protesters will meet at noon outside Oriel College to protest its decision to retain a controversial statue of Cecil Rhodes, a British imperialist and South African politician.
A statement on the group’s Facebook page read: “We persist in our demand that the statue be removed. We will also demand that Oriel College establish a scholarship fund for the descendants of Rhodes’ crimes.”

The group will demonstrate outside the Codrington Library at All Souls College, named after slave owner and colonial governor Christopher Codrington. Other ‘targets’ will be revealed online in the run-up to the march.
The National Union of Students’ Black Students Campaign has issued a statement expressing its “full support and solidarity” with Rhodes Must Fall.
Those in favour of retaining the Rhodes statue include Oxford University Chancellor Chris Patten.
