A 30-year-old man from Didcot died in an accident in the town yesterday, Thames Valley Police have confirmed.

A spokesman for the force said the collision happened yesterday at about 2.10pm in Jubilee Way, near to the junction with Hagbourne Road.

The crash was between a silver Rover travelling towards East Hagbourne and a red Skoda which was travelling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the Rover, a 30-year-old man from Didcot, died at the scene.

His next of kin has been informed. The driver of the Skoda, a 44-year-old woman, was treated at the scene.

Investigating officer, Sgt Ashley Hannibal from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "I would ask anyone who saw this collision on Jubilee Way, or who may have seen either of the two cars shortly before, to contact Thames Valley Police.

"There are allotments nearby and anyone who was working there may have seen something that could help with our investigation.

"If you have any information about the incident please call the 24-hour Thames Valley Police enquiry centre on 101."

South Central Ambulance spokesman David Gallagher said: "We were called at 14.07 and sent an officer and an ambulance.

"The air ambulance was called but stood down as unfortunately one patient was declared deceased at the scene.

"There was one other patient with minor injuries who was treated and discharged at the scene."

Labour town councillor Margaret Davies said: "Everyone is saddened by this latest tragedy to affect the town.

"I drove past the accident and saw the crumpled Rover and and the Skoda on its side.

"It's difficult to see why the accident happened where it did but that will emerge as part of the accident investigation.

"It happened near Fleet Meadow community hall - it wasn't actually on the roundabout.

"I gather the man who died had a young family - it's very sad."
