FASHIONISTAS flaunting outfits crafted out of recycled materials will strut their stuff on the catwalk this month.

Oxford City Council has said it hopes its fifth ReFashion event on Thursday, March 10 will be the biggest one yet.

The award-winning free event, which is part of Oxford Fashion Week, aims to inspire residents to recycle their unloved clothes rather than throwing them out.

City council executive board member for a Clean and Green Oxford John Tanner said: "ReFashion gives unwanted clothes a second chance by offering people innovative and stylish ways to upcycle, mend or swap their garments."

Fashion lovers are set to fill Oxford Town Hall between noon and 6pm to enjoy 15 stalls and watch students from across the county on the catwalk.

Cowley-based charity Oxfam will join the event for the first time, to show off its vintage clothing and second-hand bargains.

The first Real Nappy catwalk show will also take place with mothers and babies.

Guests will also be able to join ReFashion's free clothes swap event Swish, where unwanted clothes can be switched for another.

There will be student fashion shows, clothing sales, upcycled crafts, mending and alterations, as well as styling workshops and demonstrations.

More than 3,000 people have attended ReFashion events and more than 1.5 tonnes of clothing has been donated.
