OXFORDSHIRE residents have one more day to respond to a public consultation on the £120m flood alleviation channel being planned for Oxford.

People can give their feedback on the Environment Agency’s first plans for the scheme online or via email until midnight tomorrow.

The EA will then read through hundreds of comments to draw up a final design for the scheme which it hopes to reveal this summer. The 7km channel proposed would divert water from the Thames to stop the river overflowing during high rainfall.

The channel would run from just north of Botley Road near Seacourt park-and- ride to rejoin the river near Kennington.

It would consist of a small stream just a few feet across and a much wider area of flood plain which would take extra overflow water.

In January the EA revealed 18 route options for seven sections of the channel at a series of public events in Oxford and Abingdon.

Engineers asked the public to vote for their preferred option and give other feedback on the designs proposed.
