A campaign to cut down on harassment in Oxford's nightlife is due to get £250 for training in clubs and bars around the city.

Good Night Out (GNO) Oxford is part of the national Good Night Out Campaign, which seeks to reduce harassment in licensed venues by educating staff.

It mainly focuses on sexist and homophobic or queerphobic abuse, but also targets incidents of racism and ableism.

The Oxford branch has so far secured training for all the staff at Plush nightclub in Park End Street on how to appropriately respond to harassment reports.

It is now set to receive £250 from the Oxford University Student Union (OUSU) council to go into other clubs across Oxford and run training sessions.

A council report reads: "GNO Oxford has so far made significant progress and have contacted a number of clubs around Oxford, eliciting positive responses from many and securing training for all the staff at Plush for later this term.

"The committee are currently negotiating with several other clubs and expects to have training dates confirmed by the end of the month.

"It costs £250 for one facilitator training session, which includes the bringing in a member of the national team to train of up to 15 volunteers as facilitators and all materials to distribute to participant clubs."
