More than 150 people enjoyed a special three course meal at The Gatehouse shelter in St Giles' last night.

The Oxford Homeless Project teamed up with volunteer group Team Prosperous and the Oxford Dawah Centre to provide meals for the homeless and less fortunate in the city.

Guests feasted on the three course meal which was made up of a range of dishes including chicken curry, pasta and spring rolls.

Mother-of-four Shabnam Sabir launched the Oxford Homeless Project with friends and family after deciding she wanted to do more to help those struggling on the streets.

She said: "It was an extraordinary evening and was bigger and better than we had even planned.

Oxford Mail:

"We do the regular meals in Cowley on the Monday, but we wanted more people to have the chance to get a decent meal so decided to do one in the city centre on a weekend.

"The gus from London came up to help us and it was heaving.

Oxford Mail:

"It's something we would love to do again and I think everyone who came enjoyed being treated to three courses and as guests rather than just coming for a meal."

All the food was donated, cooked and served by volunteers.
