Flights planned to go between Oxford and Edinburgh will not begin this spring, it has emerged.

The Oxford Mail understands that the flights will not go ahead after Linksair, the airline earmarked to operate the service, pulled out of running the service.

In October is was reported that the airline had its safety licence revoked by The Civil Aviation Authority [CAA].

Jane Stanbury, spokeswoman for Oxford Airport said: "At the current time there are no flights scheduled to operate from London Oxford Airport to Edinburgh, albeit this is a route which has had the most interest.

"The decision to operate flights is taken by the airline operator, not the airport.

"The airport has not received requests for the reestablishment of this route to date."

A spokesperson for the Civil Aviation Authority said: “Following the suspension of LinksAir’s Air Operators Certificate (AOC) in October last year, we can now confirm that the certificate and the airline’s operating licence have been formally revoked.

“To ensure passengers’ safety, all UK airlines are required to hold an operating licence and AOC in order to carry fare paying passengers and we monitor their safety performance to ensure they continue to meet the required standards.

“Since the suspension of LinksAir’s safety certificate in October, we have worked closely with the airline but it has not been able to satisfy us that its certificate should be reinstated. The airline has not been able to operate any flights with fare paying passengers during the suspension and can no longer do so now the AOC and operating licence have been revoked.

“Safety is always our first priority and we will always take action when necessary to protect the travelling public.”
