The hunt is on for a flytipper who dumped more than 60 bags of rubbish at a recycling bank in Banbury.

Last week a resident complained to the district council that dozens of rubbish and carrier bags had been dumped at the centre in Ferriston.

Although many of the bags contained textiles which can be recycled, the incident is being treated as a flytip because the bags had been dumped in the car park.

Cherwell District Council's lead member for clean and green Debbie Pickford said: "Although we are not responsible for emptying these particular bring banks, we do monitor the area regularly and are disappointed to see the state this area was left in, particularly as the banks were not at capacity.

"This incident is a perfect example of the difference that can be made by taking the time to dispose of things properly.

"Had the offender taken just a few minutes to put the textiles in the banks, they would have made a significant recycling contribution and left the area tidy.

"However by just dumping the bags on the floor they have committed a criminal offence and spoilt the area for others."

The rubbish was later cleared by officers and sorted so textiles could be sent for recycling.
