OXFORDSHIRE fans of the rock band who plunged to their death at the weekend have paid tribute to the rising stars.

Members of Viola Beach and their manager were killed in Sweden just one week before they were set to play a sold-out gig at the Bullingdon pub in Oxford.

Charlotte Nichols, 16, fell in love with the band after stumbling across their set at Reading Festival last year.

The Abingdon teenager, who goes to Fitzharrys School, said: "I've been tweeting them asking them to come to Oxford and they always retweeted - you could guarantee they would. I was at work when I heard the news, my sister texted me. I can't believe it. The first thing I thought was 'that can't be true'.

"They were just getting big. They were just the happiest band, their music would always make you smile if you were having a bad day."

Four-piece Viola Beach was due to play at The Bullingdon in Cowley Road on Saturday.

Paul Williams, general manager of the venue said: "Our thoughts and hearts are with family and friends at this time."

The gig will go ahead with support band Blossoms.
