THAME tennis club has been revealed as the best in Oxfordshire.

The club, based in Queens Road, beat off 40 others from around the county to win the 'Aegon Oxfordshire County Club of the Year 2015' award.

It has around 300 members and is the only club in Oxfordshire with artificial clay courts.

Mark Wilkins, who has played at the club since he was 10, also scooped up County Coach of the Year.

The 27-year-old said: "Year on year the club has grown and we have a large membership that is also active.

"Around 80 per cent of our members play twice a week.

"The new clay courts have also meant we can play throughout most of the year."

Vice-chancellor of the club Daniel Morris, said: "For Thame Tennis Club this is amazing recognition and we are so proud to be a growing club with home grown coaching talent.

"During 2015, Thame Tennis Club relaid four of our courts with the latest in artifical clay technology and a member of the LTA joined us from London for the official opening of the new courts."
