The Chiltern line between Bicester and Banbury will be closed for nine days this summer as part of a £76m upgrade.

Chiltern Railways and Network Rail have today announced the closure from Leamington Spa, through Banbury, to Bicester North from July 30 to August 8.

The rail operator said the investment would improve reliability and punctuality through the Banbury area.

Engineers will replace signalling upgrading it to a more modern system and 14,000 metres a new line will be installed.

It is part of Network Rail Upgrade Plan which will see more than £35bn pumped into the railways until 2019.

A replacement bus service will operate over the nine days between the three stations.
