THE public will get a say on proposals for a £12.5m package of transport improvements in Headington.

The Access to Headington scheme could bring new cycle lanes, pedestrian crossings and bus lanes from Cherwell Drive to Horspath Driftway and the Eastern Bypass, as well as Old Road.

Following design work on proposals after an initial consultation last year, Oxfordshire County Council has said it is ready to formally consult on the project and address the necessary changes to Traffic Regulation Orders.

The consultation will run from February 24 to March 23.

The Oxford City Council member for the area, Ruth Wilkinson, said she was pleased with organisation of the scheme.

In a public statement, she said: “We don’t have details of what is in the plans yet, but at least we do have dates for the diary well in advance. The new plans will be published along with associated Traffic Regulation Orders, so how much effect will public comments have on the final outcome?

“Definitely a question I’ll be asking the officers at the first event.”

A first public exhibition will be held at Wood Farm School, in Titup Hall Drive, on Wednesday, February 24, from 3pm to 8pm.

The second will be held at St Anthony’s of Padua, Headley Way, on February 27, from 10am to 4pm, and another at Wood Farm School, on March 2, from 2pm to 8pm.

Exhibitions will also be held on March 3 at the Old Road Campus Research Building, 11am to 6pm, and St Andrews’s Primary School in London Road, 10am to 4pm.
