Oxfordshire is bracing itself for a “Spanish plume” this weekend, with hot weather and the possibility of some heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Met Office spokeswoman, Nicola Maxey said: "Saturday should be mainly dry and hot with some prolonged sunny spells.

"We can even expect highs of 29 degrees across the whole of Oxfordshire."

According to the Met Office, the odd heavy shower may develop in the west of Oxfordshire by late afternoon, with the possibility of thunderstorms in the evening.

Ms Maxey said: "Although Oxfordshire is outside the warning area for thunder, it is possible that warm air coming over from Spain and France could put the county at risk of it in the evening."

By contrast, Sunday is expected to be slightly cooler, with temperatures only reaching highs of 21 degrees.

Ms Maxey said: "It’s set to be a rather rainy Sunday, with regular showers expected over the course of the day.

"There should, however, be a few brief sunny intervals."
