RUCHIKA Ganesh moved to India halfway through her GCSEs to be closer to her sick grandparents.

The Cowley student, pictured, only started at Cheney School in January but managed to pick up 4A*s yesterday.

The 16-year-old’s family moved to be closer to her grandparents last year after they were both taken ill.

The former Oxford High School girl was taught in the language of Tamil for three months. She sat six GCSEs but was disappointed with her results and persuaded her parents to let her move.

Miss Ganesh then moved to live with her sister in Cowley and started at Cheney in January this year. She said: “It’s been a tough couple of years. I’m ecstatic, this is the best I could have hoped for. I started revising in February but I’m like that."

“My parents will be really happy - they are very protective and were worried and wanted me to do well.”

The Cowley resident said her grandparents were on the mend and that she would be staying on for Sixth Form.

She has chosen to study Latin, Spanish, Economics and History at Cheney over the next two years.

She said: “The school has been great since I started. I was self-tutoring in Science for a bit but without a natural understanding of the subject it was very difficult.

“The classics centre here is great and I want to do Latin – I’m looking forward to next year now.”
