YOUNG people went wild during a series of outdoor challenges at the Hill End Outdoor Centre near Farmoor this week.

A series of five-day Ultimate Survival Camps have been laid on by the centre throughout the summer to keep even the most inquisitive minds occupied.

Each course had a theme such as ‘woodland challenge’ or ‘jungle encounter’, with participants aged eight to 14 taking part in activities such as canoeing, raft building, scavenging and more.

In the throes of ‘island escape’ on Tuesday were Tom Burchall and Pia Forrestal, both 12.

They got involved in some animal tracking and camouflage classes.

Tom said: “I liked building miniature rafts from wood we scavenged and then floating them off with rocks on board.”

Pia added: “It’s been really enjoyable. We’ve been looking for animal tracks and found a rabbit burrow. I really like it in the woods.”
