A MAN from East Oxford has spoken of the moment he woke up to find his motorbike on fire.

Tim Kruttschnitt, who lives in Charles Street, off Iffley Road, said he woke at 3am yesterday to find his Honda Hornet motorcycle ablaze.

The 30-year-old engineer technician said the bike was completely destroyed by the fire and that he had contacted police to investigate possible arson.

He added: “I woke up around 3am to some crackling noise and I knew it was my bike. I ran downstairs and got outside and saw the flames.

"The neighbours were already out and we moved the cars nearby to stop them from catching fire. Unfortunately there was a Polo car that caught fire after the bike fell over and petrol squirted out.

"There were two other fires in the area so I imagine it was arson.”

Mr Kruttschnitt added that the fire service was quickly on the scene to tackle the blaze, but his motorbike was completely destroyed.

He added: “I’m hoping the insurance will cover it but it cost me £2,800 and it’s the only bike I have.

“It’s quite frightening to be honest. If my bike had fallen the other way then the burning petrol may have squirted on to a house and it could have been a lot worse.

“I’m very grateful to our neighbours who spotted it and rang the fire service.”

Thames Valley Police did not respond to requests for a comment.
