Primark in the Westgate shopping centre is to close for a year-and-a-half.
The shop's last day of trading will be Saturday, March 12, 2016 and it will not reopen until the regeneration of the Westgate is completed in Autumn 2017.
Primark said it had to move out due to building work as part of the regeneration and could not find a viable alternative in the city.
Staff have been offered the chance to apply for jobs instead at the new Primark store in Banbury, which is scheduled to open in November.
Spokeswoman Georgia Colkin said: "Primark will work hard to facilitate this process to ensure that all of its employees at Westgate Oxford experience a smooth transition during redeployment to the Banbury store."
