CHILDREN enjoyed cooking on a campfire as the Rock Edge nature reserve in Headington hosted a play day in the sun.
The activity session, organised by Heart of the Wildwood, was part of the Rock Edge Rock Hoppers scheme, run for children and their parents every Thursday from 10am to noon.
Activities include art, exploring, den building, mud kitchens, and fires with stick bread. Children on Thursday made soup and griddle cakes.
Among those enjoying the outdoor fun were Hugo, nine, ad Martin Gerez Lopez, 12, along with Elena, eight, and Paula Martinez Lopez, 11.
The Rock Hoppers event is held at Rock Edge Quarry, a registered site of special scientific interest (SSSI) and managed by Oxford City Council.
Rock Edge, formerly known as Crossroads Pit, has exposures of Upper Jurassic rock, laid down about 160 million years ago, and includes fragments of coral and fossils. It is thought to once have been the boundary between a coral reef and a surrounding shallow sea.
